Founded by David and Brenda Montgomery, the farm is now home to three generations of Montgomerys. All of the family has a hand in the farm, from helping to manage the cattle, to raising chickens for egg production and taking care of the horses. The whole family plays an essential part in keeping the farm running.
For over 30 years, Montgomery Farms has been raising cattle in southern Missouri. Breeding mainly registered Black Angus cattle, we pride ourselves on raising cattle of the highest quality with good temperaments. The goal of 3M Angus is not to have more animals, but to continually improve the quality of our genetics. The farm strives to market bulls and replacement females to commercial producers throughout the region.
Most recently, we have expanded our offerings to include Silvermist Highlands, which features traditional Scottish Highland cattle along with miniature Belted Galloways.
In addition to cattle, we also raise chicken and ducks for egg production and insect control.
The farm is also home to a variety of the other barnyard animals including horses, dogs, cats, geese, and donkeys.
The original founder of Montgomery Farms, David has been the backbone of the operation for over 30 years. He grew up on a small rural farm near West Plains, Missouri, where they raised commercial beef cattle. David always loved living in the country and being around cattle, and couldn't wait to return to that life.
In 1992, 3M Angus at Montgomery Farms began with a small herd of five registered Black Angus heifers. 3M Angus has focused on Black Angus cattle since the beginning because, according to David, "I like the appearance of the breed, and feel it provides the best meat and the best market, along with support from the Angus Association."
David's favorite animal on the farm? Surprisingly, it's not a cow. It is his horse, Ebony, who was a gift from Brenda over 20 years ago. When he's not working on the farm, David enjoys classic cars, golfing, and bird hunting in addition to spending time with family.
Erik grew up working alongside his dad and also inherited his love of Black Angus cattle. In 2009, he and Katie, along with daughter Sydney, built their house on a corner of Montgomery Farms. Sydney and her sister, Sophie, are the third generation of Montgomerys to live and work on the farm, and they love every animal that calls this special place home.
Erik and Katie are responsible for the poultry side of the farm, along with Silvermist Highlands. Their house is a bit of a zoo, with dogs, cats, geese, ducks, chickens, donkeys, horses, and miniature cows! (As of right now, at least...the herd is forever growing around here!)
Jason is our farm manager. He is in charge of all aspects of the farm, from maintenance to making sure the cattle receive the care that they need. Jason has been with Montgomery Farms for more than ten years, and is a vital part of the operation.
Jason has been hooked on cattle since he was seven years old and helping his parents feed bottle calves, so it's no surprise that his favorite part of working with livestock is calving season! He loves seeing all the new babies (hoping that most of them are heifers, of course).
Jason takes after David in the fact that his favorite animal on the farm is also a horse - Nugget, a golden palomino gelding. When Jason isn't working at Montgomery Farms, he takes care of his own farm and enjoys going to cow and livestock sales. He also loves spending time with his family.
Jason says, "I am proud to be able to represent 3M Angus and the Montgomery family, because they are part of my family. I look forward to many more years of working together to build Montgomery Farms."
